Daniel Sullivan grew up in the musically-rich heritage of Cleveland, Ohio studying and playing at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Beginning piano at the age of six, Daniel studied with William Kurzban and James Tannenbaum at the Institute before entering Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory as a piano performance major studying with George Cherry.

While in college, Daniel began studying the harpsichord with William Tinker who introduced Dan to Gustav Leonhardt in 1974. Before venturing to the Netherlands to study with Leonhardt, Dan obtained a Master of Music degree in Harpsichord from Yale University where he studied with Albert Fuller. Shortly after completing his degree, Dan lived in The Hague and studied privately with Leonhardt, returning to his native Cleveland, Ohio.

Early in the 80s, Dan moved to the Chicago area to pursue a Master of Management degree at Northwestern University. He quickly fell into the early music scene in Chicago playing with the Chicago Baroque Ensemble, Jubal's Lyre, and Basically Bach amongst other early music groups. Long involved in church music, Dan served at Bethel Presbyterian Church (OPC) in Wheaton, Illinois, and Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Elgin, Illinois, and at Christ Covenant Presbyterian (OPC) in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Now residing near Madison, Wisconsin, Daniel has become deeply involved in the Midwest early music scene again playing recently at the Chazen Art Museum, Bach Around the Clock (with members of the Madison Symphony), and at Luther Memorial Church. Dan is harpsichordist with Sonata à Quattro, a Madison-based period instrument ensemble and has performed with Just Bach, the La Crosse Symphony, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble.

Daniel owns and plays on instruments of Willard Martin and A. H. Schlick. He also dabbles in the folk and orchestral harp and regularly plays piano for a variety of events. He has previously served on the board of directors of Bach Around the Clock.
